Even if the white man didn't introduce the South American tribes to alcohol, I think the scene you described above makes for a pretty good argument that it played a large part in their downfall, neverthess.
I do realize that the Native American tribes committed a lot of atrocities against each other; that is why I said such nefarious tactics have been used by "all civilizations since the dawn of human history." I was speaking of all civilizations, not just European ones. Another well-known example is how fighting amongst various African tribes contributed to so many of them ending up victims of the slave trade. I am sure there are many, many more examples that could be cited. It's an ugly by-product of human nature, unfortunately.
