Since so many of us are animal lovers, I wanted to share this link with you. Animal Aware is a non-profit organization that rescues dogs and cats in Guatemala; on my recent trip there, I had the great fortune to meet this incredible team, who operate a shelter with over 200 dogs and nearly 100 cats that have been rescued and nurtured back to health. Extreme poverty and lack of education amongst the people make the lives of many domestic animals in the country very hard and I'm going to be donating time and money to Animal Aware, as I have seen first-hand the plight of these animals and the difference that a just a few dollars can make. It's 8 quetzales (the local coin) to a dollar, so $20 can go far in terms of purchasing food, supplies, vet care, etc.
If you're interested in helping out, you can find them here
The picture is of me at their fundraising event, with Dakota, my sister in law's rescued boxer who is herself a true testament to the resiliancy of the animal spirit.
