We are planning to go to the rally. Since I am in New Jersey, it is about a four hour drive and we can sleep at our son's in northern Virginia.
I'm in NYC and have a friend in DC who offered a bed, but it's Family Weekend at my daughter's college, so I'm off it Ohio. Have fun for everyone!
As to reading, I'm halfway through Little Dorrit by Charles Dickens--what a masterpiece!

October 2010: What Are You Reading?
What a coincidence -- I just purchased an audio version of Little Dorrit a couple of weeks ago. I needed something to listen to on a 6-hour drive, and that was about all the bookstore had. Can't go wrong with Dickens, right? Well, I'm not too sure -- I've definitely had difficulty with it. I've had to go back and start over. I read a synposis somewhere that says it was a satire, so that helped me to "get it" a little.
I think the problem is that this version is an audio dramatization -- some books just don't dramatize well and I'm afraid this may be one of them.
Unfortunately, I can't return the book, so I'll get back to it one of these days and try to make it all the way through to the end.
Actually, the dramatization that I have was done by the BBC -- it says it is a radio dramatization, but perhaps it is simply an audio recording of the TV dramatization. That would explain some of the "weaknesses" in it........
No, that probably was a separate Radio 4 dramatisation. I see there was one with Ian McKellen and Sophie Thomson in the not too distant past. The BBC have often done completely separate TV and radio adaptations.

I got halfway through Little Dorrit and stalled, as also happened with Dombey and Son. I will go back and try again sometime. I think my main reason for not picking it up again was not feeling involved with any of the characters. Also Dickens' attitude to his female characters was ticking me off, as per usual.

I've thought about it. It's a six hour drive for me, and I can stay with my siblings, who are both in DC.
BTW--finally reading Into the Wilderness. I'm in the midst of chapter 3. Why doesn't midst look right?

Change of plans. Just picked up Red Mountain by David Lavender from the library and will be starting that. Southwest Colorado and I believe involves the building the the Million Dollar Highway (I have driven that narrow narrow narrow narrow highway).
At home with a good book and the cat...
