Welcome! If you liked Aztec, read his Journeyer, about Marco Polo. Really excellent interpretation of his story.
We haven't made it to Toronto yet, but we've visited Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec, as well as Vancouver. Tell me about Toronto, whats there or nearby that you'd suggest we see if we make it out there sometime?

Wow, all those Cdn. cities, but never visited Toronto? Definitely come and visit!
Nearby, of course, is Niagara Falls and some great wine country. And in the city itself...we have the CN Tower, The Hockey Hall of Fame (if you like hockey), a beautiful waterfront area with quaint shops and eating places, Center Island reached by a 15 min. ferry, Royal Ontario Museum, Casa Loma, Eaton Centre ( great downtown mall...5 levels), lots of funky areas such as Little Italy, Greektown, etc., the Beaches, Kensington Outdoor Market...Lots of great things to see and do, plus lots of free street entertainment in the summer...You'd love it!
Oh, and I've read The Journeyer and I did like that one too!

I bet we would. We were visiting Quebec one summer and decided to include Montreal and Ottawa, not really knowing what was in Toronto. We went to Vancouver last summer when traveling through our Pacific NW. We both want to get back to Quebec; it so felt like visiting Europe, which we miss doing (air fares have gone through the roof!) So eventurally we'll get back that way and try out your city. It does sound fun!

Belated welcome, Mark (I've been away for a week.) I cut my HF teeth on Jakes and Michner. I read Byzantium several years ago and remember enjoying it and I'm definitely a non-religious person.
I also just finished Saylor's Roma and Empire (liked the former better than the latter) and posted reviews in the forum. Have fun here. I'm looking forward to meeting you in the threads!
