That sounds exactly like the lunatic things my friends would do, yes...

(Did I say that? Ah, righto...)

By the time a lad left Eton, which might have been anywhere between his 16th and 19th birthday, he would be writing Greek odes, reciting huge speeches from Greek poetry or the New Testament (they did so for Fanny Burney as I recall), and performing in classical Greek plays. And I was amazed to learn that their education in the late 18th and 19th century didn't include Shakespeare, but did include Pope and Sheridan...
