Arthuriana newbie from Texas

Post by Ashley » Sun August 22nd, 2010, 2:42 am

Hello. :)

Newbie here, brought by love of historical fiction and the fact I write my own stuff too (although right now I am more focused on my fan fiction than I am my novel). I am mostly interested in Arthurian literature, although I also love ancient history, Rome in particular.

I'm 40, I am a buyer for a Large Natural Grocery Store Chain :p , love movies (actually have a production degree from a million years ago; worked in LA for a time), love to write, love coffee, love extra sleep when I can get it. ;)

Favorite authors include Bernard Cornwell, Hellen Hollick (of whom I just wrote about here), Anne Rice, Charlie Huston, Robert Harris, Lindsey Davis, James Lee Burke, Robert Crais, Rosalind Miles, Terry Goodkind (just started the Sword of Truth series), Naomi Novik, and Stephen King - the Dark Tower books.

Nice to meet you all, and I'm up for a chat (especially about Arthur :p ) any time.

Hello and welcome! I write in the era just after King Arthur, so his legacy is an important part of the setting. I read and enjoyed Helen Hollick's Arthur trilogy a while ago, and like you, I liked the first book best. Have you read Sword at Sunset by Rosemary Sutcliff? It was out of print for ages and was reissued a couple of years ago.

Hi Ashley, glad to have you here. I loved Helen's trilogy, nice to have one without the magic, isn't it? Mary Stewart wrote a trilogy on Arthur, and there's also Nancy MacKenzie's books as well. Haven't read the Cornwell ones yet.
