I first read this book many years ago, when I was researching a historical novel set in Rome. I didn't complete writing that book but Christian Maier's Caesar stuck in my mind. Started re-reading it recently and it was just as fresh and interesting as when I first discovered it. I wonder if there are any other historical biographies that good.
