It's probably a stretch to call this historical fiction; it stretches from about 1913 to the present, with most of the story taking place from the '50s to the '90s. But if you like stories set in Appalachia, then I highly recommend it. I think it is her debut novel, and I don't know why it hasn't generated any buzz. It is incredibly well-written; I could hardly put it down.

For those of you in book groups, I think this one would make an excellent choice. It lends itself to a lot of discussion.

P.S. Even Harriet liked it -- she gave it 5 stars (surprise!). And amazingly, there is only one slight error in her review. Although she gives away too much of the plot IMO.....
