I'm still sulking because the last Catherine book was never published in an English language editon :(
Annis, I may have posted this before, but there's an explanation of why it never got translated plus a link to chapter synopses here- although I agree it doesn't make up for being able to read the whole thing!

To Defy A King

Post by Berengaria » Fri August 13th, 2010, 7:35 pm

EC's To Defy a King is an enjoyable read....I've already ordered her next book! I finished reading The Prince of Darknessby Jean Plaidy first. I know that John was a cruel and arrogant king; the book spelled out some particular horrors. He was definitely a sociopath! Now with EC's book, I can "see" this era from another viewpoint.

Just finished slogging my way through a very so-so science fiction novel, Fearless by Jack Campbell. A real disappointment. Now I am reading something else, The Lonely Polygamist by Brady Udall, is proving to be very funny and very poignant in spots, and one I recommend if you've seen the series, Big Love.

Reading Tracy Chevalier's Falling Angels again

Post by JCDaily » Fri August 13th, 2010, 9:37 pm

Does anyone else here enjoy Ms. Chevalier's work? I'm a fan of split narrative and the use of multiple narrators, so, I enjoy that element of her writing. I'm new to this board. Thanks for having me!

Welcome, Joseph! I've never read any Chevalier either although several friends have recommended her. I too think multiple narrators can work very well, my favourite examples are Susan Howatch's family sagas and Philippa Gregory's The Boleyn Inheritance.

I second that welcome and no I've not read her books. Just came across the odd page numbering in the attached image. Just look at the page numbers.

Are the pages themselves out of order? Or is it just the numbering that is off?

I went from 267, to 269 to 268. I only noticed when I turned the page and the next sentence just didn't make sense.

Guess they just wanted to see if you're still awake. :)

It looks like an old book -- is it Yankee Stranger by any chance? Ever After is on its way to me, although it seems to be taking the slow route.
