New Roman film

Post by parthianbow » Sun April 12th, 2009, 5:21 am

Neil Marshall, director of Dog Soldiers, is doing a film sort of on the lines of Eagle of the Ninth. Dominic West of The Wire is in it, as is Micael Fassbender, the guy who put in the most amazing performance in Hunger. Hopefully it won't be tooooo 'Hollywood does Rome' style...

You don't like Hurt? Or something else that I'm missing?

Nothing against him personally, he just doesn't look like my image of the great William Marshal!

I agree with EC - Wm Hurt is ok, not my favorite actor but he does ok in the roles I've seen. But as Wm Marshall? No way.
Have just read that Ridley Scott is including William Marshal in his film about Robin Hood with William Hurt in the role of the Marshal. Nooooooo!!!!!
I'm so very sorry, EC. There's something so wooden and distant about Hurt -like it Hurts for him to show or feel emotion. He just won't do as Marshal at all.

I do really like Matthew MacFadyen since seeing him as Darcy in the 2005 film (many many times!) and look forward to watching him in the Sheriff's role which is currently showing as 'rumored' at IMDb. I'm still trying to envision Russell Crowe as Robin. Crowe in tights? I can easily see Vanessa Redgrave as Eleanor of Aquitaine. And the actor playing Will Scarlet is one of my favorites from ER - love Scott Grimes' red hair.

I'd rather have had the hunky Matthew McConaughey as Robin, myself. I'll always see Alan Rickman as the Sheriff of N- he was so wonderfully devious in the role.

Maybe William Marshal will only have a bit part, EC? That wouldn't be quite so painful.

I loved Alan Rickman as the Sheriff of Nottingham - so camp! He was hilarious and about the best part of the film really.

Looks like they're finally getting the movie of Birdsong off the ground...

I do hope they get Eva Green to play the main female part - she'd be perfect.
