My daughter's home from her semester abroad and had a wonderful time. Missed her while she was gone, but she is so grown up. Time to decorate for the holidays!

WOW! Talk about a great Christmas gift...our oil company called saying they applied for a grant for us to get money to help with the oil costs and we got it, $750! That'll cover the rest we owe for this last delivery and some more oil that we'll need soon! How nice of them!

Fingers crossed that you get it!

We didn't even know they applied for it for us. It was just out of the blue. Last year we ran out of oil on Christmas and they actually showed up to refill it for us, so they go above and beyond!

Tried a new recipe, it turned out really well.
Into battle we ride with Gods by our side
We are strong and not afraid to die
We have an urge to kill and our lust for blood has to be fulfilled
WE´LL FIGHT TILL THE END! And send our enemies straight to Hell!

Have had the days between Christmas and New Years off work (company closure), so have had heaps of time to do housework & other neglected chores!

The biggest accomplishment was tidying up the library - both SLOC and I have bought far too many books this year that have been lurking in heaps ready to fall down on unsuspecting feet... :D So we spent most of yesterday reshelving & culling the books, and it looks so much better! For one, the couch is now able to be used as a couch, not a "temporary" shelving-area!

(Resolution for next year is to not let it get to the same state!)

Cross Posting From the Worst Thing Today Thread ...

Post by DianeL » Mon January 2nd, 2012, 7:57 pm

My worst thing of the past few days was the fact that it took five kindhearted strangers, two days, close to ninety dollars worth of truck and dolly rentals, and three significant pieces of broken trim to move the antique wardrobe I purchased into my home. All I wanted to do was be able to hang up a coat without its coming out of my 18"-inch-wide downstairs closet looking like a balled-up Kleenex!

The end result, though, is that I am incredibly INCREDIBLY grateful for my friend who came over for two days, for the generosity of three folks at the furniture store (where NOBODY WAS AVAILABLE to move the thing out!), for the time and generosity of one neighbor, and the final push by a complete random stranger in a car who stopped to help and accepted the huge dropcloth the piece was wrapped in overnight for payment for his good deed (he turned out to be a painter!).

Now that the thing is in, the Christmas decorations are down, the house is clean, and my shoulder is resting quietly post-strain, I am warmed both by the warm and beautiful glow of this oak beauty, and by the fact that, hard as the job was, it demonstrated to me the vast willingness of people to be simply good and useful to others they encounter.

So, really, not such a bad worst thing after all ...
