I watch the Duggers and no they havent used drugs. THey are ultra religious though. However, they are not on any assistance. It was said that they pay their way through rental properties that they own. Plus they don't buy name brand clothes and often go to the salvation army for clothes/shoes.
Yeah, I saw them on a show and they said they have that many kids because of their religious beliefs. At least they pay their own way!! But being the oldest of nine I can tell you that while we had all our needs and then some provided for us, one on one time with our parents was practically non existant. We older kids were automatic "built in baby sitters" and couldn't pursue after school activities or things like that because we had to be home helping around the house. I don't think it's possible for two people to properly parent that many kids and provide not only financial support but the emotional support each child needs as well. It's just not logistically possible!

So what do you all think about the Octuplet Births?

It's just not logistically possible!
Our developing service based economy (with residual manufacturing anymore) doesn't require the 'built in work force' needed to run the family farm to provide food and other needs for the entire family. You'd think smaller sized families would be the logical choice for responsible parenting at this point in the history of most developed and non-agricultural based economies.
Either the Octo-mom has mental health and reality issues, or she's doing it for fame and fortune. Her mother seems to think her daughter has some mental issues and stated she wished her daughter had become a kindergarten teacher since she loves kids so much. I saw a bit of news that the Iraqi born father of the Octo-mom may go to Iraq on a work contract to earn some money for them all. He probably wants to get far far away from a house full of 14 kids under the age of 7!
This is a perfect example of how reproductive freedoms go both ways!! Should she have done it? From the information available now, my opinion is NO. But she does have the right to it!
She has the right to do it, yes, but the rest of us also have the right to refuse to support such insanity. She made her bed, let her lie in it. I can't imagine her getting much corporate support right now either in this economy. We've all heard in the past of these huge baby factories getting support of diapers and formula and clothing from all the companies that make that kind of stuff, but I doubt it's likely to happen now.
She's got to have some kind of insurance or something because I know from my cousins' experience that the shots or whatever meds she was given ain't cheap. Unless the doctor is giving it away for free...?
I'll chip in for a mental exam.

If you want to have 14 kids then you should be able to pay for them. Why do we have to chip in for her stupidity. FURTHERMORE, (my knickers are in a knot) I am getting really flippin tired of doing the smart, right things and getting screwed for it.
I dont have kids. I can't afford kids. I live in a modest house. I didn't make those stupid choices growing up to get knocked up by one of my bfs or to have 14 kids. And yet I'm paying for all these losers! I'm tired of it. Damn tired of it.
If its not the PC thing to say I really dont care.

I'm with you 100000000% Divia. There's one thing I want to do more than anything in the world and I can't because I follow the rules and do the right thing. It makes me sick.

Edited for a link to an interesting article. Most notable quote: "...where her mother, Angela Suleman, believes that Nadya is "obsessed" with having children." Big surprise there!!

You go girl, I'm just as mad as you - and even more so at whatever stupid doctor let her do this. I can't recall what site I read it on today, but some fertility doctor was taking a *we're not god and able to judge people* attitude. Puleeeze - I swear I had to go through more hoops to adopt a pet from the humane society than this chick did to get herself impregnated with multiple children.
Just love the bit about her mother saying she's obsessed with having kids. Well, the last chick I read about being that obsessed was Diane Downs and we certainly don't need another of one like her around.
Even if (and that's a big if) she has insurance to pay all the medical bills (who here is unemployed and can afford that kind of medical insurace?), and I don't know of any insurance company that just adds kids onto the policy for nothing - so there's added insurance fees. But then aren't we all pretty sure she's going to turn out not to have any?
Then there's still schooling - all those extra kids dumped into a public school system. Where's she going to get the $$ for eight cribs, all that milk, diapers, clothing and more that goes into raising babies. And who's going to pay the dental bills? College tuition? It just goes on and on - the only thing I know for sure is the doctor who allowed this mess to happen should be horse whipped and run out of practice, and I for one will boycott any manufacturer who gives her funds for product endorsements - and I'll make sure to write them and let them know why I won't be buying their product anymore.

The whole thing is shocking and sad. Regardless of the mother's mental state, the children must be cared for.
If you don't think the government should pay for things like this, you might want to consider voting Republican.
I agree that any doctors involved need to be seriously investigated (or worse).
LCW makes a very good point about reproductive freedoms. If someone decides this woman should be "spayed" who's to say they won't say more women should be? Who determines the criteria? Where are the lines drawn?
I can also understand the frustration of doing the right thing, playing by the rules, and getting nowhere.
