Feb 2009 - What are you reading?

Post by diamondlil » Sun February 1st, 2009, 8:37 am

Because we all seem to read so much (there are 250+ pages of posts in the previous thread) it was suggested that we have a separate thread for each month, which will help if you are searching for specific titles etc.

So, here is February's thread!

I started The Water Horse by Julia Gregson yesterday. I really enjoyed her second book, so I am hoping to enjoy this one. It is actually set during The Crimean War so it's an interesting, but not often written about setting.

Finished up the fourth book of the Sharing Knife, Horizon today, and got the review up. If you haven't read any Lois McMaster Bujold, run to the bookstore and pick up some of her stuff. Very smart, very well written Science Fiction and Fantasy author.

Now off to start Pauline Gedge's new Egypt novel, Seer of Egypt, the sequel to The Twice Born. Damn, but she is good!

Lois McMaster Bujold is one of those authors that I have been meaning to read forever, but just haven't ever got to her.

LMB is an author that regularly ruins me for SF after I read her for about a month or so. Everyone else just can't quite measure up. So if you want someone who is smart and funny, and knows how to write really well, go on ahead and give her a try. She's best known for her Vorkosigan novels, but I think you'd really like the Sharing Knife books, or her Chalion novels.

Still re-reading "Gates of Fire," by Steven Pressfield.

But since it's been so hot here this week I just haven't been in the mood to read, so I'm barely at page 100. It's a good thing I already know the story, lol.

I didn't read much during the last week either for the same reason. At least it has cooled down a bit here now, but I know it is still hot over there.
