What Are You Reading (Jan 2009 edition)?
I'll try not to breathe so hard . . .
Hope you enjoy it!!
I'm currently reading "The Miracles of Prato" about the Italian Renaissance painter Fra Filippo and his forbidden love for his muse, a novatiate. So far, it's well written and interesting. It's an ARC for the Amazon Vine program.
I ordered the same book from Vine. Glad to hear it's good; I'll find out for myself when I get home next week.

I started this year off reading some juvenile and YA fiction I've had in the TBR pile. Just started Across Five Aprils by Irene Hunt about a boy coming of age during the American Civil War. I grabbed this at the book store not long ago because the title rang a bell, and I vaguely remember liking it when I first read it in my youth, but don't remember much else. Thought it would be nice to revisit.

I'll be interested to hear your thoughts. I did hit a bump with it; there's a few mentions of homosexuality as being "unnatural," which I could excuse as these are 15th-century monks and nuns - though Fra Filippo's own homophobia is off-putting. Then the evil provost character is turning out to be gay, so I'm liking it less. And the virginial novitiate is starting to bug me; she needs more spine, but like I said, I'm not that far along yet. It could change.
