Anti Virus Software

Post by Misfit » Sun December 28th, 2008, 11:58 pm

OK, now that I've got Norton to refund my money and I'm looking at the reviews for the 2009 Norton AV on Amazon I'm having reservations. I had a terrible experience with McAffee years ago, the dang thing literally took over the system.

Any other suggestions? Thanks.

I've been using Kapersky for the last few months, with no complaints. I also downloaded the freeware available on Firefox via the Google Pack:

I've used Norton and McAfee and had problems with both. A couple years ago I started using AVG. It's free, but they have a pay version with a few more features, so I'm using that now. No problems and no viruses. No popups, no ads, I love it. Updating is easy and the daily scan doesn't seem to slow down the PC.

Second the Kapersky thing. My ex told me about it and he loves it. Raves about it. No issues yet. (knock on wood!)

I use AVG, with no problems. Recently the laptop was running slow and a friend on another forum suggested I used Spybot and Spyware (I think that is right!), both were free trials, but I did pay the extra on one of them. Lappy is now working faster, but nothing sinister was on it that AVG had not found.
A good book and a good coffee, what more can anyone want? xx

I agree with AVG. I have been using that for years and it's never failed me.

That's what I've been using for years too. No problems at all with it. Seems to be doing it's job very well indeed.

I use Avast. It's free, and I've had no problems with it.

I use Avast. It's free and it works just fine. Was recommended by a computer pro. Run the boot scan once a week and forget Norton or McAfee :D

I've just installed AVG, after reading recommendations on here. I'm so chuffed with myself as I have never done it before. I am one of those women who gets their male relatives to do any technical stuff for them :D . I hope it's all ok, but I don't know how to run a regular check! I only use my computer for browsing the net, online shopping, and any word processing. I really should learn more, like doing photos from my camera etc. I'm a bit of a slouch in the IT department I'm afraid.....I can't be bothered :o . Oh well, at least I've achieved something today, (assuming it all works ok), so a little at a time.
