Good catch on the Anand book. These images do get around more than we realize.

I thought so. The Laker cover is from 2009 I think, The Midwife's Tale is coming out next year. Isn't fun to see what they can do with Photoshop? ;)

I have noticed that Joanna Hickson's The Agincourt Bride and Anne O'Brien's forthcoming The Forbidden Queen are taken from the same photo shoot.

Interesting. They are both about Catherine de Valois, both compared to Philippa Gregory's novels on the cover or in the description, and the rest of the cover (font, design around the edges) is really similar too. Are the publishers connected (MIRA and Harper), has one ripped off the other, or are they just sharing a designer? I have no idea how the cover design process for 'big' novels works. I notice Joanna Hickson's is a debut, so I suppose they're trying to market her overtly to fans of PG, and less overtly to fans of Anne O'Brien.

Comparisons to Philippa Gregory are the catch-all. You'll see it quite often. I've even had it done to me!
Mira are part of the Mills & Boon romance empire, so they are different publishers to Harper. What often happens is that there will be a photoshoot and pics that aren't used are bought by other publishers. Or else they will buy a licence to use the same photo and then alter it a bit. I noticed that Vanora Bennet's The People's Queen has a reject cover from a long ago photo shoot for Poesie Graham Evans' series. (The Bennet cover has a woman looking at the hem of her gown in a curled over arc). I've seen the photo shots of that series they did for Evans, and the Bennet cover is one they didn't use, but it was shot at the same time.
Readers might end up confused with the Hickson and the O'Brien though.

Ah I see! Thanks for explaining, I thought the process must be something along those lines. So the similarities between the Hickson and O'Brien covers are most likely not on purpose, being different publishers, but I agree - I think some readers could end up confusing these two.
