My favorite was when someone came to my blog by searching "naked steambaths." I had posted about the bathing suite in the chateau of Fontainebleau. I can only imagine how disappointed the searcher must have been when he/she arrived at my staid blog and not the juicier fare he was looking for! ;)

I also get a lot of hits for "earthworm remedies" since I did a post about medicine in the 16th c. I always wonder whether people are looking for usable information to try earthworm oil on themselves (yuck!) or are trying to eradicate the poor creatures.

Today I found this one: "ample woman loves tickle fights"

Okayyyyyy.....I'm not even going to try to figure out why google referred them to my blog!

Ha!

I got "Merchant of Venish" yesterday. Probably because the man who drew my logo has the last name Venish.

Boy, someone's in for a surprise.

Let me get this straight - if someone keys in a search phrase in yahoo or google that may pertain to your site and brings up your site on the results page, then you receive notification that your site has been queried by that phrase?

I'm going to be so careful going forward with my search phrases because now I know somewhere, someone is laughing at me! And maybe even posting my phrase on a talkboard somewhere. By the way - none of these phrases on this thread are mine!

Leyland, only if the site owner has installed some type of statistics counter (like sitemeter or statcounter) on the blog do the search phrases ever show. The blog owner can check to see how many hits she's getting and where they're coming from. If the hit comes from Google search, it shows what the search phrase was. It never tells who the actual visitor was, only the location and part of the ISP. So make all the silly queries you want--your identity is safe! :)

My latest stats show that a significant number of blog visitors (about 25%) are arriving because of one of those silly blog memes I did a few years ago (five funny things about me). For some weird reason, my blog is #3 when you google that phrase. I bet people are disappointed after reading it... nothing scandalous or off-color there!

There are an awful lot of people looking for free past-life readings, too, judging by what Sitemeter tells me.

I also get a few searches a day from people wanting to know about medieval castles. From the last 12 hours:

medieval castle construction
ways to build real medieval castle
how to buy medieval castle

There's a business opportunity here for someone into architecture or real estate.[/quote]

Aren't they a few centuries late for a real medieval castle?

A website owner can also have a log that records the information about every visit to your site and hit to your images. If you have program to analyse the log it comes in very handy.
