Forthcoming Books: 2009 edition
I've just noticed that Harry Turtledove has a novel due out in April about the disastrous Roman defeat in Germania at the Battle of the Teutoberg Forest (9 AD). In the words of Augustus, titled:
"Give Me Back My Legions!"
I'll definitely have an eye out for that one.

Annis.....Thanks so much for the heads up.....As you remember I tend to obsess about the Lost Eagles....I too will be on the look out for HT's new novel........BYW....I saw a snapshot of a NZ film "Eagle vs. Shark" looks like a hoot....I will have to give a full look.....The lead looks like one of the guys from the "Flight of the Conchords"?

Hi Chuck- still on the case of those lost Eagles
The book is listed as historical fiction, so I'm guessing it will be straight HF and not an alternate history version - you never quite know with Turtledove.
"Eagle vs Shark" is funny- and it does star Jermaine Clement from the Conchords.
Have you been watching the "Flight of the Conchords"? A rather surprising success story, though the guys are very talented. Still it was a bit of a risk to try out their quirky Kiwi humour on a US audience . They picked up a cult status and became famous! Ironically, TVNZ turned down the idea of doing a Conchords show when it was originally suggested- they might be kicking themselves now--

Hey Annis....You're right about Harry....hope he writes it straight.......I'm not stand up comedy person.....appreciate witty, and quirky humor....MP and BA boys are still my favorites...."The Conchords is really catching on....the College kids really dig the Kiwi Boys humour and the music....odd stuff but very funny.....Really struggling with HF these days.....have tried a number of books mentioned in the forum.....Re reading "Confederates in the Attic"....Horowitz is such a talent......BTW...that Woolshed Tune keeps playing in my head....think it's called "You keep Stringing me On" or maybe it's the video/ Deju Vu thing that is playing with my mind....Still yearn for simpler uncomplicated times......1969 going on 2009.....Still looking for the Garden.....

Just wanted to add, The Last Queen comes out in trade paperback on May 5, 2009. They're still fussing with the cover; but they'll probably use the same photo, with some alterations, as the UK (paperback debuted in the UK this month.)
Oh, and my Catherine de Medici novel has been shifted to spring 2010.

Forgive me if this is already posted. I just stumbled on this on Amazon and was curious what anyone knew about it.
Secrets of the Tudor Court: The Pleasure Palace (Paperback)
by Kate Emerson (Author)

Not much info on what the book's about, just that it's coming in February.
Edited, just found a website on the book and author. Perhaps this is a romance novel?

The author has a listing of well-known (and not so well-known) Tudor women on her website. Evidently she wrote Wives and Daughters, a nonfiction biographical dictionary of Tudor women (which I have found quite handy) a while back, and the website updates the listings in the book.
