Bicycle etiquette for lady cyclists, a hilarious list of "donts" published by the newspaper New York World in 1895. I want to know what a "bicycle face" looks like

Very funny! I liked "Dont scratch a match on the seat of your bloomers." The most useful? "Dont contest the right of way with cable cars."

"Don't let your golden hair be hanging down your back."
No problem. I'm a brunette, so I can leave my hair hanging down my back.
"Don't wear white kid gloves. Silk is the thing."
Ok, I'll wear my silk gloves, but I refuse to bicycle in stillettos.
"Don't scream if you meet a cow. If she sees you first, she will run."
Only a city girl would do that, unless of course the cow is on a bicycle too. Now that would be interesting. And whether or not she would run (or simply cycle off) depends on the cow. Some just stand there, daring you not to stop.
