Wotcha!

Post by erechwydd » Sat November 12th, 2011, 6:26 pm

Hello everyone,

After lurking around on the forum for a little while, it dawned on me that it might be a good idea to actually join. So I did. :D

My name's Beth, and I live near Bristol. I've always enjoyed reading fiction set in the past, but my interest was really piqued in 2008 when I had to research the genre for a creative writing course and discovered the wealth of historical fiction out there.

I've written a couple of short stories, a comic novel set in Early Medieval Wales (currenly languishing on the hard drive, waiting for revision), and I'm gearing up for research on a second Early Medieval novel. So far I haven't tried sumbitting anything, although I'd like to have a go in the future.

As far as writing's concerned, the Early Medieval period is of particular interest to me (in case you couldn't tell :D ), along with the Iron Age and Roman Britain...although I do occasionally make forays into other periods.

Reading-wise, I'll dig into any period quite happily. I haven't been able to read much historical fiction recently as I'm embroiled in the last year of a degree and have got behind with my set texts. But I hope to rectify both issues very soon.

It's really nice to be here, and I look forward to meeting you all and having some interesting chats. :)

Cheers,
Beth

Interest in HF: started in childhood with the classics, which, IMHO are HF even if they were contemporary when written.
Favourite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.
Location: California Bay Area

Hi Beth! Nice to see there are others who know how to spell piqued. Usually it's 'This peaked my interest' or 'My curiosity was peeked'.

Oops, the grammar grouch just crawled out from under her rock. Bad girl! Very rude to correct people's spelling/grammar. Go lie down!

(Too much reading has given me multiple personalities, and I not only talk to myself, I also write to myself.)

Anyway, there are many other sane people on this forum.
