Confederates, a novel by Thomas Keneally, an excellent picture of the US Civil War as seen from the POV of members of the Confederate army, from generals to footsoldiers.

I've just started The Haunting by Alan Titchmarsh. I've never read anything by AT before - for those of you who don't know, he's a celebrity gardener/TV presenter in the UK. It's a dual time-frame novel with a ghostly theme, so I'm giving it a go.
