Reading Slumps
It doesn't happen to me very often. When it does, I think it's usually a reflection of other things going on at the time, rather than the reading itself. I mix fiction and non-fiction, as well as different genres and different periods, so I guess that helps. I notice that I get bored reading the same type of thing back to back, no matter how good it is (Sharpe, Cadfael).

I agree with that! I haven't done much reading for the past week due to external factors as well as starting an awful book. I tried to read Jewel of Medina and just couldn't stand it and would read a few pages at a time but the fact that it was so bad allowed me to get easily distracted by something else. But at the same time I did want to finish it so I didn't want to start something else. Eventually I gave that up though, lol, at the rate I was going I was going to be stuck with that awful book forever! I'm all for free speech and am against religious intimidation trying to squash it but I'll pass on this example of free speech!
Also things have been quite the perfect storm with my pets health, my dog had surgery, my cat was rushed to intensive care in heart failure over the weekend....not very conducive to a nice relaxing evening with a book! But I'm starting on The Eight and so far it's good so hopefully it will get me back in a good "reading groove".

I understand what you are saying about your stressfull time not being conducive to reading, but for me, that is when I would loose myself in a book. it would help take my mind off the stresses to let me recharge.

When there is something worrying on my mind I cannot concentrate on a book at all !! The only thing that helps me then is dancing.

I hope your animals are OK, Lila. I can understand not being able to concentrate if you're worrying. If I was in your position, I would read something which doesn't need much concentration.

I hope your pets get back to health very soon! I know how hard it can be when our little ones are ill; for me everything else just goes out the window. When my last dog got sick, I barely read anything for weeks. I just couldn't focus.

I am currently in a reading slump right now. Nothing seems to interest me. I have a vine book I need to read and I'm like ehhhh. Two books I bought are horrible! I dunno....
