New Kittens!

Post by stu1883 » Mon September 12th, 2011, 9:22 am

It is only a couple of weeks since our beloved Jake passed away, but someone referred us to a charity and asked us if we would like to adopt another! Not sure if it too soon, but we went to see them on Saturday & they are lovely!

One is a male and the other female. Nicki is naming the boy & I am naming the girl.....but I'd like to name her after someone in the middle ages. I am thinking of Ellie (after the original Matriarch, Eleanor of Acquitaine). Do any of you lovely people have any other suggestions?

I'll post photo's once we get them home!

Sorry to hear you lost your other cat.

I suppose if you're calling the girl after Eleanor, then the boy should be Henry? Although Henry is more of a dog name than a cat I think.

I don't think Eleanor was ever an Ellie - just not her, and her name in her day was Alienor. Although I do like Ellie as a name and it's your kitty! Here's a few more.

Petronella - Eleanor's sister
Ela - Longespee's wife.
Maude - for all the Matilda's out there!
Emma
Sybilla - lots of them around in the MA
Melisande - Queen Melisande of Jerusalem
Edith - one of the names of Henry I's queen
Ida
Isabelle/Belle/Bella - Bel-Bel was a mistress of Henry II
Eve - Marshal daughter
Isolde - daughter of Robert Earl Ferrers
Alice (Alais) - lots of them around
Cecily
Gytha
Lucy - Countess of Chester
Mabel - Countess of Gloucester

Godiva? Though people might think you named her after the chocolate.

How about naming her after a place instead of a person? Like Avalon or Mercia? I always think it's weird when pets have human names (though when I was a kid, our dog was named Sadie so I can't really talk).

There are cats from history too. Pangur Ban for example - although it's thought he was a white tomcat.

Stu, thanks from the pet rescue community for adopting from a charity! I've fostered dozens of kittens and friendly adult cats dumped into feral communities and we depend on generous people like you to provide forever homes. Blessings!

Sorry about your cat.

I like Alais as a cat name. (I nearly adopted a kitten today myself, but would not have enough time for one that young right now.)
