Very interesting article
I think this article - and the others on her site - are well worth reading for every writer. Though she has a bit of a sore spot regarding agents and publishing in general, she also has a lot to share that is eye-opening:

- Interest in HF: started in childhood with the classics, which, IMHO are HF even if they were contemporary when written.
- Favourite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
- Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.
I've been following her too, Chris, and she does have some interesting things to say. Her husband is more of an axe-grinder than she is, tho. Still, the industry is changing so rapidly it behooves anybody serious about getting their content read to stay abreast of it.
I agree! Very interesting. I'd never heard of her before.

I've been following Kristine'sand Dean's blogs for quite awhile. Great publishing business stuff, but they definitely have a bias. They did encourage me to set a "short story a week" goal for myself this summer. I used to send my SF/F/H short fiction to them when they published Pulphouse (mumble, mumble) years ago. Never broke into their market, but I don't hold that against them.

That is interesting. I've been reading her blog since she called into question what publishers are declaring for ebook sales. (http://kriswrites.com/2011/04/13/the-bu ... tatements/)
I don't always agree with her, but I definitely admire that she isn't afraid to stand up and say what she thinks. It gets everyone talking, and that helps us all.

I take everything everyone says about publishing with a grain of salt. Like so much in life, we all have individual paths and unique experiences. I did find her candor refreshing, even though she definitely has a stance which I don't necessarily always agree with. Still, I learned some things from reading her posts and that's a plus. I actually thought the e-book sales article was particularly relevant.
