I've finished "Arcadia Falls" by Carol Goodman (355pgs, 2010). One of my favourites of her books, lots of twists and turns and "I didn't see that coming's". I wonder when another book under her name will be out, soon I hope.

Ah but it sounds different then her "regular" novels. I'm also reading her Watchtower series that she's writing with her husband, under the name Lee Carroll.

Thanks for letting me know.

PS: doesn't seem to be listed for US yet.

Starting the fourth book of the Outlander series, Drums of Autumn. Jamie and Claire sure do get around to different places, don't they!

Amazon's UK site calls it urban fantasy meets modern gothic  .....sounds quite different to her usual mysteries! Although I'm not quite sure what urban fantasy actually is.

A Terrible Swift Sword, Bruce Catton

Before Shelby Foote there was Bruce Catton. All of his CW books are worth the read.

Kathleen Herbert's Moon in Leo. This is the book KH wrote many years ago, but which has only just found its way into print. A lively and lushly romantic tale set around the aftermath of the English Civil War, the Popish Plot and the genesis of Monmouth's Rebellion. It's very readable and I'm enjoying it, but would have really loved it 20 or 30 years ago. It's probably a bit too melodramatic for my current more astringent tastes and the heavy reliance on the arcane doesn't do a lot for me. I think it will appeal to those who like beautiful, spirited heroines, and plenty of action and intrigue and KH again demonstrates what Ariadne aptly calls "an extraordinarily vivid sense of place"
