Luckily her youngest son (my nephew) who lives in Christchurch was fine, though rather dazed. His house basically fell to pieces around him!
Kind of puts everything into perspective. My heart goes out to everyone.
One of my colleagues is back home visiting her folks in Christchurch, but we got a message she is OK.

- Favourite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
- Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.

Have not heard from my nephew and wife/two kids in Tokyo. He is the XO of the USS Mustin, stationed in Tokyo. Looking at some horrific footage of ships washed inland by the tsunami, although the images were from northern Japan and the Mustin is a pretty big boat.
Very grateful that my former DIL and grandaughter, also in Tokyo, are all right.

Glad your people are safe MLE. I just donated money to the Red Cross.
Sad thing is, this is not all that unusual for Japan. I've been reading a book on Bad Things throughout history and Japan has been hit by a lot of earthquakes, tsunamis, fires and other stuff.

The nuclear power station in Japan has exploded now. It must be so very scary with fears of radiation poisoning! It's terrible.
