Hello, Ruth!

Illinois, poorly run? No!! Say it ain't so! I remember a few years ago my family and I stopped by Fort Kaskaskia only to find it closed. Because we couldn't drive into the park, we wound up climbing the steps up the river bluff to get in, which we then dubbed "The Steps of Insanity."

Some very good historical sites in Illinois: Kaskaskia, Fort de Chartre, Fort Massac, Cahokia (my favorite) and Dickson Mounds (terrific museum there!). Just call ahead to make sure the state isn't closed before you go!
I joined here just days before my computer died (well, it was 10 years old, after all. R.I.P.). Bought a new one, and then the monitor died. So I've been computerless for about a month!

I'm Ruth Sims. I'm in the US, in Illinois. We may be the worst-run state in the union, but at least we finally recognize Domestic Partnerships! Once in a while we do something right.

My published historical fiction are The Phoenix (Lethe Press) & Counterpoint: Dylan's Story (Dreamspinner). Counterpoint was just recently honored by the LGBT Round Table of the American Library Association. I also have several published short stories, but they're not historical.

I'm really, really, really, really old. Nonetheless I like to learn new things. You CAN teach an old dog new tricks.

In April I will be celebrating my first wedding anniversary... in my second 50 years of marriage.

:D
Hi Ruth, welcome to the best forum on the Net. And don't worry about your age, us young whippersnappers would love to have another Nan!

I'm in Bristol, England and my first novel is currently being written, I hope the first draft will be finished by the end of April.
