I'll call the maker of the wireless router to find out what I need to do Monday.

Finding out our little island theatre will get "Sherlock Holmes" the starting day, though we'll see it the next day (Dec 26th), cause no buses or Access Van on holidays. Looking forward to it!

Oooh, please let us know how it is when you've seen it! I'm dying to go--but I'll have to wait until my parents are visiting and I have resident babysitters. :)

the best thing today for me was that a couple of hours ago I had lost my wallet... I was very distressed, I prayed, and thank God someone returned my wallet at the shop where i had lost it... so very happy! :D :D :D

Realizing just how cool it is that there is actually a group of people on the interwebz who know what I'm talking about when I get huffy about Elizabeth Woodville and Melusine...

Happy holidays, all of you!

Interest in HF: started in childhood with the classics, which, IMHO are HF even if they were contemporary when written.
Favourite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.
Location: California Bay Area

The best thing today was made more enjoyable by the worst thing today -- volunteered to take Hailey, now age 1, for the Santa picture at the mall. The line was over an hour long, Hailey squirming and in fancy clothing that was uncomfortable. And then, just when we got to the front of the line, the lone Santa goes to lunch.
We waited 45 minutes while the overstimulated, overtired children all around started to fuss and wail, my grandaughter among them, ending with a will-not-be-comforted screaming, wailing, fling herself about from arms to stroller to floor, needs-a-nap tantrum.

I am thinking that if the DIL were not so set on this stupid tradition, I would end the torture for everybody. Four hours later, after fighting traffic, I drop off cranky Haily and a horrible photo of a puffy-eyed-screaming baby in a white-bearded stranger's lap, and I arrive home to find Messiah playing, the whole house smelling wonderful, and my daughter setting up six different kinds of cookie dough. She laughed about the Santa pictures, and promptly proposed to make a Father Christmas costume for Grandpa Jay to pose in for a better picture.

If it comes out well, maybe next year the DIL will shift her tradition to something more fun for Hailey.

(Forgot to mention -- the wonderful thing about this is that it was completely unexpected for my daughter to be at my house -- but the son-in-law sent her off so he could work on her Christmas present, whatever that may be.)

Knowing that in just a few hours I'll be leaving Berlin and spending Christmas Eve with my sister-in-law in Switzerland. She just told us the news that she is pregnant, and we couldn't be happier for her!
