Thanks EC (and Carly) glad I bailed on it after 50 some pages. Loved the bit about the midges .
Wish I had time to read all those blogs but that would cut into reading time.......

Thanks for the reminder about Barbara Erskine's "Daughters of fire", Vanessa- that's the one about Cartimandua, isn't it? I haven't read it and didn't realise that it was the prequel to "Warrior's Princess".
I've enjoyed BE's Books in the past, but I'm finding that i'm feeling a bit impatient with "Warrior's Princess" , despite being very interested in Roman Britain and Roman history in general. Maybe the sameness of BE's formula is getting to me - her modern-day characters seem to be developing a certain clone-like quality, and their experiences interchangeable!

Finished "Born to Rule: Five Reigning Consorts, Granddaughters of Queen Victoria" by Julia P. Gelardi about Tsarina Alexandra of Russia, Queen Victoria Eugenie of Spain, Queen Sophie of Greece, Queen Marie of Romania and Queen Maud of Norway.
It was a very good book though it did have some faults and I didn't give it 5 stars at Booksfree because of them (I gave it 4 stars). The main faults was some annoying typos and the fact that Maud got really lost in the crowd of her cousins mainly because her life wasn't tumultuous as theirs were.
As it was only Norway has managed to keep it's throne ever since it became a separate monarchy with Maud and Haakon as it's rulers. Spain regained it's throne only in 1975 with Victoria Eugenie's grandson Juan Carlos as king.

She's got a new one coming out this December or November, I can't remember the title right off.
Lessee, recent reads:
The Sharing Knife: Beguilement by Lois McMaster Bujold (an excellent read!)
Dexter in the Dark by Jeff Lindsay
Too Late to Say Goodbye by Ann Rule
Now starting in on The Princes of the Golden Cage by Nathalie Mallet, looks like a fantasy novel set in a psuedo-Ottoman Empire

Found it "In Triumph's Wake: Royal Mothers, Tragic Daughters, and the Price They Paid for Glory" out in Nov. Well once it's in paperback I can suggest it to Booksfree, they're pretty good about adding books that are suggested, though my last batch I suggested hasn't been added....yet.
