Susan, that's so interesting, I had no idea Princess Beatrice lived so long. Wikipedia says she was born in 1857 and 'died at the age of eighty-seven on 26 October 1944, outliving all her siblings and several of her children, nieces and nephews.' What a lot of change she would have seen in the course of her life.

"In Hoc Signo Vinces" (in this sign thou shalt conquer)

27 October 312 – the day on which Roman Emperor Constantine the Great is said to have received his famous Vision of the Cross before his victory at the Battle of Milvian Bridge, prompting his conversion to Christianity, and the choice of Christianity as the official religion of the Roman Empire.

The historian Eusebius states that Constantine was marching with his army (Eusebius doesn't specify the actual location of the event, but it's clearly not in the camp at Rome), when he looked up to the sun and saw a cross of light above it, and with it the Greek words "εν τούτῳ νίκα" ("by this, be victorious!", often rendered in Latin as In hoc signo vinces). At first, Constantine didn't know the meaning of the apparition, but in the following night, he had a dream in which Christ explained to him that he should use the sign against his enemies. Eusebius then continues to describe the Labarum, the military standard used by Constantine in his later wars against Licinius, showing the Chi-Rho sign.

Beatrice was the youngest of Victoria's nine children, but she wasn't the longest-lived. Louise (1848-1939) died at age 91 and Arthur (1850-1942) also died at age 91.
