Very sorry MLE. My grandfather died of lung cancer when I was three.

I'm sorry to hear that MLE.

This definitely doesn't compare to lung cancer, but I felt seriously ticked that I spent an hour in front of the TV waiting to see if the little boy would land safely in the balloon today (and I never watch TV - maybe once a month) and then saw this interview where the child lets it slip that he "did it for the show".

Interest in HF: started in childhood with the classics, which, IMHO are HF even if they were contemporary when written.
Favourite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.
Location: California Bay Area

Thanks, all.
Michelle, you can store that one in your teacher's notes in case you ever get assigned to the lower grades!

Hah. Yes, if I ever return to teaching, I would be very careful what sort of things came out of my mouth... I never had a credential to teach the young ones though. Poor boy. If it's really a hoax, he's let it all slip and his father is not going to be pleased.

But what show did he mean? If it was all a hoax, it's awful and they should pay the cost the rescuers put out.

I don't know. Did his father tell him it was a hide-and-seek game they'd be playing for a show they'd be filming? Very odd, especially given the family's background.

That's terrible news MLE.

Re the boy in the balloon - it's in the papers here today and it does sound a bit strange, the family aren't exactly publicity-shy are they!

Another bout of dental pain, and this time no money to go to the dentist. No sleep last night due to pain. And nope, dentist doesn't work on the instalment payment plan or anything else. No money, no service.
