Hi, I'm Elizabeth Loupas

I’ve posted here and there and I’d like to introduce myself. I’m a lifelong reader and lover of historical fiction, and I’m gobbling up the posts here on the board and making many lists of new books to read.

My own debut historical novel has just been sold to Penguin/NAL. The working title is THE SEC0ND DUCHESS, it’s set in sixteenth-century Ferrara, and it’s a re-imagining and continuation of Robert Browning’s poem “My Last Duchess.” I’m now working on a new book set in the Scotland of Mary Queen of Scots’ personal reign, involving passion, murder, intrigue, some lost quatrains of Nostradamus, and a girl who can read the future in flowers.

And reading! Lots of reading. I’m so pleased to have found this board.

Hi Elizabeth, and welcome. The 16th C Ferrara setting and story sounds fabulous and congratulations! The Scotland WIP sounds up my alley, as well.

Hi Elizabeth, welcome to the board! I was glad to hear the good news about your novel; I remember hearing about it on CrimeThruTime a while back and wondered why it hadn't been grabbed yet :)

Interest in HF: started in childhood with the classics, which, IMHO are HF even if they were contemporary when written.
Favourite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.

Hee! Definitely not Tudor. The closest it comes is a wedding gift of two hound puppies from Queen Elizabeth to Duke Alfonso and his new Duchess, Barbara of Austria, the narrator of the story.

Thanks so much for the welcomes!

Welcome, Elizabeth! I visited your site a while back, and thought your book looked marvelous; great news to hear Penguin/NAL bought it. I'm really looking forward to it. Sixteenth century Italy is one of my favorite settings.
