Have just ordered "A Rare Interest in Corpses" by Ann Granger, the first in a historical series (1864 or thereabouts if I remember rightly).[/quote]

The first one is very good; the sequel not quite as strong.

Just ordered some replacements for my AWOL Cadfael mysteries via PBS. I had more than 20 credits, which is ridiculous, so used some. Also ordered some mysteries/thrillers & some books by Jane Aiken Hodge that I haven't read in more than 20 years.

Thanks to Tanzanite's blog, I went to Barnes and Noble to pick up my reserved copy of Eamon Duffy's Fires of Faith (NF), and what should I see but Robert Hutchison's Thomas Cromwell (NF) on the shelf too! So I bought 'em both. I felt a little guilty about buying two books instead of just one, but then I congratulated myself in not having given way to the hype and purchased Dan Brown's latest. So I left feeling highly virtuous for not having bought three books.

Went and bought new copies of Margaret Campbell Barnes' reissued Tudor novels.
(Don't ask... I like having two copies of some things.) :o :o :o

The Mary Beard book is excellent and I'm glad others are reading it even if it's not fiction.

Oh I'm happy to hear that! I had my eye on it for a while and thought I might as well get it now. Interest sparked after being in Pompeii this year. Wanna go back and see more! :)

Our Tely is going to Pompeii on her upcoming trip. I wish I could visit it some day but right now it's just a distant dream, sigh. But at least I can visit there vicariously through the books!

There is an exhibition on in Melbourne atm. If only it was coming to Sydney! Mind you...it would be a bit of a stretch to go to Katherine!

I read the book a couple of months ago, and enjoyed it.

Here is something for you to listen to in the meantime:
