I'm currently reading The Thistle and the Rose. The Rose without a Thorn is the only other JP I've read but from these two I admit I will be buying more of them.

I saw on Amazon today a couple of new covers for books that were previously released by Three Rivers Press (when they were doing the covers with actual pictures of the book's subject). There's no new publication date for the books so I guess they're just changing the covers.

(yeah! I got the pictures to show up!)

Hmm... I like the original covers of those better. Why change them?

I agree...I like the covers on the first ones I picked up a few years ago. They just had a nice, classy look to them.

I only have three books with the new covers. Two of the new re-issues, and one other. Really like those two covers though.

Now those are doing the headless thing. And the Mary book has a bodice shot.

It's not just that they are headless -- it's that the shots are limited to strategic parts of the anatomy! I can see why they revamped the covers -- the yellow will "pop" from the shelf better, and so will the other colors and the design. It's set up to appeal to people who are raised on the MacGillivray offerings or romance-disguised-as-HF.

Interest in HF: I can't answer this in 100 characters. Sorry.
Favourite HF book: Checkmate, the final novel in the Lymond series

The yellow is very nice, but I hate the bodice shot - who do they think is the market for this book? Teenage boys?

I have about 8 or so with those nice, classy covers that I posted above and one with the new cover (To Hold the Crown). It does pop from my shelf...it sticks out like a sore thumb. :(

To Hold the Crown could have used a nice portrait cover. As could The King's Confidante.
Though for some reason I sorta liked the new one for Katharine of Aragon. :o

I devoured JP for years growing up but I've tried to go back to her and I can't. Her style and characterisation are just too flat. Still I got a lot of pleasure from her books in the past so I'm glad she is being reissued for another generation to enjoy.
