Favourite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.

Sorry to hear that. Another reason to be glad I don't ride a motorcycle any more.

Diamondlil, that's horrible; so sorry.

At this end, a friend's sister has just been diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). She will be the third person I know to get it -- a close family friend died 2 years ago, a high school friend is now 6 years post-diagnosis, and now #3. She has young children.

Sorry about your friend's sister, Chatterbox. It's not something I've heard of, I must admit.

Sorry to hear that Chatterbox! That's very unusual to know 3 people all whom have been diagnosed with ALS. It is a terrible disease and it is so sad that she is so young and has a family that needs her.

I'm so sorry to hear such sad news from folks ... makes my paranoia seem so paltry...

The first named storm has formed in the Atlantic. Looks like it's not going to bother me much (on the west coast of FL), but it does mean the beginning of peak hurricane season. Scaremonger local media will start reminding us what would happen if -- when -- the Big One comes to Tampa Bay (complete with graphics). Potential for developing storms gives me the potential to develop into a Doppler-watching, hunker-down-ing, jump-at-every-puff-of-wind blob of Jello. I'll never ever get used to hurricane season (=I'm not from here--the natives don't freak out like I do!).
