I got some great books today. Which is good cause it'll take my knees a while to recover from walking/standing on cement floors all afternoon. I don't need knees to read. Picked up The Vicar of Wakefield (a copy published in 1900); Mistress Anne by Carolly Erickson; Marie Antoinette by Antonia Fraser; Outlander by Diana Gabaldon; and Tokien's Silmarillion. A few others too but those are my highlights.

Two weeks ago I found I new ( to me it was) second hand bookshop. It was brilliant! And it might be a good thing it is 3 hours drive from me so I can save my money! It had so many HF, both books I had and books I've been looking for for ages.
I limited myself and got:
Tulip Fever - Deborah Moggach
Portrait of an unkown woman - Vanora Bennett
Elizabeth the queen - Alison Weir
The queen of subtleties - Suzannah Dunn
In the company of the courtesan - Sarah Dunant

Best of all? I'm going back this saturday!

Wintercombe by Pamella Belle, it's set during the English Civil War (the second one). The US prices are a bit high but I found one for $8 at Thriftbooks. Abe has several sellers in the UK listing it for around $1.

Book description at Goodreads,
Civil war has raged across England for two years while a beautiful Puritan lady guards her husband’s ancestral home, Wintercombe. When enemy troops invade the house and a maniacal Lieutenant terrorizes the family, Silence St. Barbe begins a hopeless love affair with the Royalist captain who defends her honor and protects her children.

Today I went to the Chester County Book and Music Company again, and basically cleaned out their inventory of Mary Stewart:

The Moonspinners
The Gabriel Hounds
My Brother Michael
Madam, Will You Talk?
Wildfire at Midnight

I also bought No Dark Place, by Joan Wolf, a 12th-century mystery set in England.

Oooh, nice haul. The Moonspinners and My Brother Michael will make you want to jump a plane and go to Greece.

I'll be looking for your thoughts on the Joan Wolf one. One of my friends at Goodreads tried it and it didn't fare so well.

My sharp-eyed husband spotted these in the dollar shelf at Borders:

Sarah Gristwood, Elizabeth and Leicester (NF)

Danny Danzinger and John Gillingham, 1215: The Year of Magna Carta (NF)

And since I had Borders Bucks, I ended up paying a total of $1.06 for these, including a magazine for my daughter!
