Divia, I would recommend it. I think they can each stand alone but you'll get a fuller picture if you read them as a series.

I voted for The Time of Singing (love that title!!) but am planning to read both that and Devil's Brood in October so it doesn't really matter to me which one wins.

Do you have to read the other books in the series before you read Devils Brood?

I didn't. I don't think I missed anything. They deal with distinct time periods and issues.

Looks like I was the only one who voted for A Rose for the Crown, unfornunately that's the only book that I can order from the library and get it on time. Pennman's I really want to read, but want to read the previous ones in the series first. Gortiner's and Gregory's books are still on order at the library so that is no good. Ho hum, the waiting game!

Looks to me like we need another vote or two, it's a tie right now.

Interest in HF: started in childhood with the classics, which, IMHO are HF even if they were contemporary when written.
Favourite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.

You know, I thought I had voted, but the poll came up blank as though I hadn't, so I did. Admittedly short-term memory is not my strong suit, but would the mods check if I have erroneously been allowed to vote twice?

Your vote has definitely only been counted once.

You know, this thread made me take a closer look at The Last Queen. It looks amazing and I'm not sure why I haven't read it yet! I need to get my hands on a copy!
