I finally used the Amazon Gift Cert I got for Christmas and ordered the following:
"Typhoid Mary" by Judith Walzer Leavitt
"Napoleon's Privates: 2,500 Years of History Unzipped" by Tony Perrottet
"Faberge's Eggs: The Extraordinary Story of the Masterpieces That Outlived an Empire" by Toby Faber
"Laid to Rest in California: A Guide to the Cemeteries and Grave Sites of the Rich and Famous" by Patricia Brooks and Jonathan Brooks
"London's Dead: A Guided Tour of the Graveyards of London" by Ed Glinert

All nonfiction.

Sonja, remind me to visit you and borrow some books if I'm ever in Washington. :)

A few days ago I ordered each of Jane Austen's novels in paperback, Elements of Style, and The Garden of Heaven--a collection of poetry by Hafiz. They shipped yesterday. Yay!

LOL! You'd have to come fairly soon cause they'll either go on Ebay or to my local new/used for credit after I read them.

I'll be interested in your thoughts about Careless in Red. I'm rather fond of Inspector Lynley...

I can't remember if I mentioned it or not, but I bought the following nonfiction: The Italian Boy: A Tale of Murder and Body Snatching in 1830s London, by Sarah Wise.

I saw that at my new/used store but didn't get it, have it on my wish list in paperback though for someday, let me know what you think of it.

Went to pick up the paperback of Imperium by Robert Harris for a book group. At the register, I happened to notice the book in the bargain bin, hard back, for half the price. Not a bad evening in book buying, esp as this is not a topic I normally read about.

I hope you like it, Ash. I really enjoyed it- it's hard to make politics exciting, and I thought Robert Harris' political acumen was put to good use in this story, making the Roman political system understandable even to someone not familiar with it.
However, one critic rather unkindly re-named it 'Tedium" when it first came out, so each to his own, I guess!
