[quote=""annis""]Kate Voegele. I just recently discovered her through a thread (elsewhere) discussing favourite versions of Leonard Cohen's song "Hallelujah". You wouldn't believe how many singers have had a go at it. My favourite remains the Jeff Buckley version, but John Cale, Rufus Wainwright and KD Laing have also done interesting interpretations on the theme.
Anyway, I thought Kate's version pretty good- despite that fact that it's very much a man's song

I collect versions of this song. A lot of people including my best friend cite the Jeff Buckley version as THE one. I prefer Rufus Wainwright's, but I can recognise Buckley's absolute talent. My current favourite that I'm going to post to my blog when I get a minute is the Welsh version by Brigyn.

What do you think of the X Factor winner's version? I think it's a bit depressing for Xmas!

In the car CD player:

Ben Harper - Both Sides of the Gun (Black CD)
Jack Johnson - Sleeping Through the Static
Bernard Fanning - Tea and Sympathy
The Wiggles - Hot Potatoes Live
The Wiggles - Christmas CD (Yule be Wiggling, Wiggly Wiggly Christmas, and Santa's Rockin')
The Wiggles - Sing a Song of Wiggles

And we always have to listen to the last one of mister Luke has a tantrum. He sings along to all the songs though, so thats cute.

Chicago III recorded in 1971. One of my alltime favorite albums. Fantastic horns and lots of Hammond B-3 organ - unbelievably great versatility ranging from classical jazz to psychedelic funky soul to hard rock. Just brilliant work.

it's funny how most of us all love the same books and genres but musically some of us are total outcast compared to others here.

It's a bit overcooked I think. I'd rather have it without the vocal pyrotechnics!

Currently listening to Make This Go on Forever by Snow Patrol.

I have a clutch of CDs and tapes that I save for this time of year.
One of the best is Christmas now is Drawing Near by Sneake's Noyse, a collection of Medieval songs and carols including Tomorrow shall be my Dancing Day, which is one of my favourites of all time.
Last night I settled down with a recording of a Radio 4 programme, a re-telling of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight with Ian McKellan narrating.
And I've got Robin Williamson ready to go with Winter's Turning.
