I received my gift today. I actually don't know who you are as the name does not give me any clues at all! I got The Crystal Cave and The Wicked Day by Mary Stewart, Prince of Foxes by Samuel Shellabarger, some 'Forgotten English' playing cards, chocolate, an amusing fork, some pretty earrings and a couple of gorgeous butterfly decorations. Many thanks to whoever you are, you're very kind.

You're welcome! MLE is for Emily.
(I should have put in that cardboard-backed little wreath of red-and-green laquered llama turds-- then you would have known at once!)
I have noticed that things which seem obvious to me often aren't to others. Must work on that.
You had a couple of books on your wish list that I had extra copies of on my shelf.

LOL, MLE! I would certainly have known who you were then!! :D Thanks for removing two books from my wish list. I've not heard of the Prince of Foxes but it looks very interesting. Have you read it? I shall look forward to reading all three. Those butterflies will look great on my tree. And I shall have fun eating with the fork whilst reading the forgotten English!!

It was a nice surprise as I'd been out earlier to the supermarket, well trying to get to the supermarket - the road had been closed and I had to follow an alternative route and I got lost completely!!!! :o I don't think these diversion signs work sometimes, I felt I was just going round in a great big circle. I came home a different way and breathed a big sigh of relief when I did so.

I love Prince of Foxes -- there is a good reason it was a bestseller in its day. A couple months ago I persuaded my book group to make it their choice, and since the re-issue hardback was an outrageous $25, while there are copies of $.01 (yes, that's one penny) on the used-book sites, I picked up a bunch for the book group. I still have a few copies, and it was exactly the right sixe to keep things from shifting around in the box. So I guess you might call it packing material!

But it is a fabulous read, you'll find it on the top-20 lists several people posted on the old forum. Exactingly accurate history, lots of atmosphere, and a hang-on-the-edge-of-your-seat climax. The first two or three chapters are a little slow, in the style of the day. I noticed the movie version skipped them and went straight to Cesare Borgia's plotting, followed within minutes by a knife fight.

I got a great mug that says "Booklovers Never Go to Bed Alone" and some Kona coffee from LCW, thanks! When the weather gets even worse coldwise I'm going to me some heaping cups of cocoa in it! (assuming the power stays on!)
