I'm starting The Fires of Winter by Roberta Gellis, as sequel to her A Tapestry of Dreams. ROFL, I have to share the covers of these two books, they very much deserve to be on Tanzanite's book cover blog :D :) :eek:

Interest in HF: started in childhood with the classics, which, IMHO are HF even if they were contemporary when written.
Favorite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.

I am re-reading Winston Graham's Poldark, having been reminded of it here recently. I wonder if I'll like it as much now as I did 20 years ago?

OOoooh, I treated myself the the newly republished set of the Poldark novels not long ago. I loved the TV series years ago. Please let me know how you get on, MLE.

I keep meaning to read the Poldark novels. The reissues look very nice.

I had a passion for the Poldark series back in the day- I collected and read all the books and couldn't be persuaded to leave the house when there was an episode of the TV series showing! I have seen the TV series around as a DVD collection, but haven't given into temptation and bought it - too much water under the bridge, maybe? Sometimes it's better to leave things as a pleasant memory --revisiting old favourites can be a mixed blessing.

O, how I loved watching Poldark as a teen, and the books as well -- quite different in many ways to the series. Robin Ellis, now there was a nicely tormented hunk to slaver over. And who can possibly forget Angharad Rees?

I know a couple of grown women (of a certain age) who are reduced to mush at the mention of these names :p although I never saw the series myself, too young :)

Oh my, those are something! Do you consider these historical fiction or more towards historical romance?

Definitely romance (see posting with quote from book in the sex scenes thread :p ), although Gellis does pack a lot of history into her books - I've seen comenters on the Amazon romance boards complain her books are boring because of it. To each his own...

Just finished reading our own C.W. Gortner's The Last Queen and enjoyed it very much (review here). Juana's story is very compelling! I was riveted, from beginning to end.
