I've just started the final book in the Shetland series by Ann Cleeves, "Wild Fire".

I have several Shetland novels to read but am yet to start. I enjoyed the TV show but with regards to the books, I saw a review (not that I really pay any attention to reviews from people I don't know personally) saying the Vera books are better. I hate the Vera TV show and I know that TV and the book are different commodities but that might be a reason why I haven't got round to reading them yet. Mind you, I have quite few Val McDermid waiting as well.

I actually think the Shetland books are better than the show! They made a lot of changes from the books, which is fair enough up to a point, but some of the books could still work as stand alone stories despite those changes. I thought the last series was good but too slow.

I've just started "The Magpie Tree" by Katherine Stansfield, supernatural tinged historical drama set in mid 19th century Cornwall.

The Young Victoria by Deirdre Murphy (NF)
New biography on Queen Victoria's life at Kensington Palace prior to her ascension to the throne. It's also the companion book to the refurbished permanent exhibition about Queen Victoria at the palace--it features photos of artifacts and archival images.
The author died before the book was published; Tracy Borman wrote the acknowledgements.

I just started rereading Lady of the English by Elizabeth Chadwick
Into battle we ride with Gods by our side
We are strong and not afraid to die
We have an urge to kill and our lust for blood has to be fulfilled
WE´LL FIGHT TILL THE END! And send our enemies straight to Hell!
