48) The Throne of Fire (Kane Chronicles, #2) by Rick Riordan; I'm working my way through all of Rick Riordan's books as my 7th grade students (both boys and girls) love them. I saw this one in the library over the past weekend and grabbed it. I have one more in this series to read and two more in the Heroes of Olympus series to read (one published, one to be published in 2013). Read all the Percy Jackson and the Olympians books. I would have liked this books as a kid.

49) The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton; finished 12/28/12

I have read two Kate Morton books, her first one, House at Riverton which I read in a week, and her last one, The Secret Keeper which took me three weeks to read. Perhaps my mistake was not reading the ones in between first. I don't know. I was disappointed with The Secret Keeper. I felt the beginning was slow and it did not engage me. The book drags in parts and probably could have been 100 or so pages less. There are too many characters and most could have been developed better. That being said, the last part of the book where the plot comes together is interesting and has several twists.

I thought the same thing about The Distant Hours - it seemed endless :( , although I loved House of Riverton. I don't think you need to have read her other books, they're not part of a series.

I knew the books were all stand alone. I thought perhaps I missed something in her development as an author.
