What is Boxing Day?

Back to movies... anyone else going to see the Hobbit?
Into battle we ride with Gods by our side
We are strong and not afraid to die
We have an urge to kill and our lust for blood has to be fulfilled
WE´LL FIGHT TILL THE END! And send our enemies straight to Hell!

Forgot the US don't celebrate Boxing Day! It's officially called St Stephen's Day and is a holiday in the UK, although most retailers do now open for the sales; most offices are still closed though. Not quite sure where the Boxing bit came in, think it is something to do with opening boxes but can't remember what!

Just googled it and it was the day when servants and other staff would receive a Christmas box from their employers. It's observed in the Commonwealth territories, including Hong Kong and Canada.

But in the UK, at least, it's generally known as the first day of the post-Christmas sales.

And we get another day's holiday!

I would like to see The Hobbit but don't know anyone who has seen it yet. Has it come out yet? I think it's had previews.

It was featured on a film review programme in the UK last night so it looks like Wednesday was it's first night here.

Some said was long and drawn out but the presenter, Claudia Winkleman, enjoyed it. It covers Chapters 1-6 of the book.

Premiere was last night, it's had mixed reviews so far, some also saying there are several sections where not much happens.

That would be Friday the 21st. There is a rumor that the Mayans were really counting down to The Hobbit movie. ;)

There's a midnight premiere tonight, but those are probably sold out. I'm going on Saturday.

I remember reading the book several times and loving it. I can't imagine why they'd do this in three parts. Well, I know why - profit. But really - they could have made a very decent adaptation of the book in just one movie. Ah well.

I thought two was ok, but three is stretching it. Unless of course they plan to have extended battle sequences that could make up a whole movie by themselves.

Oh, and apparently I had the date wrong. Or they moved it and didn't tell me.
