I am giving The Master of Verona another go as I put it aside last year. Nothing wrong with the writing; I just wasn't in the mood. Instead of reading the paperback addition I have, I uploaded it onto my Kindle when it was free and am about 35% the way through. Thoroughly enjoying it even if I can't keep the characters straight!

Stayed up late to finish Love by Toni Morrison. Totally blown away by her writing, story telling and character development. Her stories are always onion-like, you peel back layer after layer, each chapter deepens the characters and adds details to the story. Makes me want to reread immediately so I can admire the craft even more.

Received an unexpected copy of Gregory's The Kingmaker's Daughter and started it yesterday. Not very far yet.

Brenna - I really enjoyed The Master of Verona as well.

This is a favorite of mine, and I was very pleased to see David release a couple of sequels on Kindle earlier this year- Voice of the Falconer and Fortune's Fool.

Back in 2009 Master of Verona was Book of the Month here - you might be interested in checking out that discussion

Interest in HF: started in childhood with the classics, which, IMHO are HF even if they were contemporary when written.
Favourite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.

Apple Turnover Murder by Joanne Fluke

(more cozy mysteries, one day I'll try one of the recipes)
Into battle we ride with Gods by our side
We are strong and not afraid to die
We have an urge to kill and our lust for blood has to be fulfilled
WE´LL FIGHT TILL THE END! And send our enemies straight to Hell!

Just starting on Omamori by Richard McGill. Huge tiny-fonted saga set in Japan, beginning in the 1930s. Silk trade, old partnership dating to the 1870s between two family dynasties - one American, the other Japanese. This is shaping up nicely...

These mysteries aren't long enough, or I read fast. :p

The new Karen Maitland, The Falcons of Fire and Ice. Maitland really knows how to hook a reader with an opening chapter. And her style is fresh and vivid. But do we really need another novel about the Spanish Inquisition? I'm only in the opening chapters, though - it's possible the falcon theme will lift this novel out of the somewhat clichéd Inquisition setting.
