40) The Confessions of Marie Antoinette by Juliet Grey; finished 10/20/13; Last book of the trilogy and I liked each book less than the previous one. With this one, I knew a lot of what was going to happen (read NF and have visited many of the settings) and that may have interfered with my perception.

46) The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker; finished 11/29/13; Difficult to describe this book...historical fiction set in 1899-1900 New York City in two immigrant communities in lower Manhattan (Jewish and Syrian), two protagonists are mystical creatures (and immigrants) adjusting to the two communities, flashbacks to settings in Syria and Europe...I probably missed something! There was so much in this novel to keep my interest that I was sorry to see it end.

47) Queen Victoria's Granddaughters by Christina Croft; finished 12/7/13; I knew a lot of the information in the book, but it was good to be reminded of it again. Queen Victoria and her descendants were my entry point into studying royalty. Queen Victoria had 42 grandchildren and 22 of them were grandchildren. All of the granddaughters are dealt with in the book, some, of course, receive more space than others. Some photos would have been a nice addition.

50) Life After Life by Kate Atkinson; finished 12/22/13
The idea of reliving a life and changing events is intriguing, but this book lost me 33-50% into it, and I had to start skimming. The writing, the characterization, etc. was wonderful, but I feel that it could have used some editing. Some of the "lives" gripped me, but others were just too similar. I'm probably really a 2 1/2 on the Goodreads scale, somewhere between "it was ok" and "I liked it."
