I broke all my previous resolutions and bought an abridged version of Sally Gardner's The Red Necklace just because it was read by Tom Hiddleston. Unfortunately, Janet Suzman read the full version and although an exceptional actress, she isn't Tom Hiddleston. However, I still have him reading High-Rise by Ballard to look forward to and that is the complete version. Generally, I refuse to buy abridged anything and especially from Audible because you pay the same credit for a shorter version and anyway can't see the point to an abridged book but Tom was worth it. I have the audio-version of the Night Manager but that is read by Michael Jayston, again, a very very experienced actor but he doesn't have Tom's voice.

That's an interesting reader, SGM, as Michael Jayston is much older than Tom H, so I imagine their voices would be quite different.

I think Michael Jayston reads most of the Le Carre novels and I suspect that is because of his role in Tinker Taylor. I remember watching him in The Power Game many years ago and have watched him many times since. He is a very accomplished actor but he just doesn't have the wonderful quality of voice that Tom Hiddleston does.

I'm listening to Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen.
Into battle we ride with Gods by our side
We are strong and not afraid to die
We have an urge to kill and our lust for blood has to be fulfilled
WE´LL FIGHT TILL THE END! And send our enemies straight to Hell!

Interest in HF: started in childhood with the classics, which, IMHO are HF even if they were contemporary when written.
Favourite HF book: Prince of Foxes, by Samuel Shellabarger
Preferred HF: Currently prefer 1600 and earlier, but I'll read anything that keeps me turning the page.
Location: California Bay Area

I finished Cornwell's Last Kingdom. I see on my audible account that Jay has purchased the next in the series, Pale Horseman. So I guess that is next.

I'm listening to Tomb of the Golden Bird by Elizabeth Peters (Barbara Rosenblat reading). This is the last (chronologically) in the series.
