I get aggravated with PBS sometimes, a person will say it's in great condition and when it arrives the book looks horrible, dog eared warped pages and water stains. UGH! why list it if it is in that state of condition?

A lot of people do that though. I mean when I get books on amazon or ebay they say the samething and it happens. Its sad.

We discussed this earlier in this thread but I did get one book that is in poor condition from PBS and I responded to the sender as such. I ended up getting my credit back. I think Tanzanite mentions if you get enough complaints on sending problem books PBS can suspend your account.

I did receive some old paperbacks from an Amazon fulfillment seller (instead of .01 for a PB plus $3.99 for shipping its a flat $4 and goes towards super saver total) advertised as very good and they were very poor with the cover coming lose. I complained to Amazon and I got $2 refund on each of the books.

If anyone's interested, I have Morgan Llwelyn's The Wind from Hastings listed on Paperback Swap, along with Frederic Fallon's Mary, Queen of Scots. And a ton of YA books that my daughter has thankfully outgrown! My handle there is boswellbaxter.

But do watch out for those unique 5/6 digit ISBN numbers. I got an unreadable self-published book -- the print was so tiny (and it was italic to boot) that I would have needed a magnifying glass. There were 14 lines per inch -- just try that one... I had posted a wish list request for the main Sourcebooks edition and it was NOT specified I'd be getting this other item.

I still am having far more luck with PBS than with Mooching. I've only been able to get 1 book via a Mooch; two others have apparently vanished in the mail. I suspect Mooching works well if people who know each other are shipping books to each other that way.

I got one today where the copyright page was detached from the book and other pages were loose--I complained to the member and she said she would give me back my credit if I was dissatisfied, but also said in effect that the book was 50 years old, so what did I expect? (I should have pointed out that I myself am 50 years old and not yet crumbling to bits, as is this book.)

I'm around that age and I am crumbling to bits :o

If you're going to list a book like that in poor condition at least have the courtesy to makes notes of same so the swapee can decide or not if its worth it.

Exactly! (Listing the book, I mean, not your crumbling to bits.) I don't expect a paperback that age to be pristine (and nothing in what was posted made me think it was going to be that old to begin with), but at that age it should be either readable or collectible. This was too fragile to be readable and too beat-up to be collectible.
