Is Winter Mantle part of a set or a stand-alone? I've been wanting to read that one.
I missed this. Yes, WM is a stand alone, but if you read The Falcons of Montabard you will recognize some characters from the latter half of TWM, and Sabin in Falcons was a tiny baby at the end of TWM. It's been a few years though, so EC is free to correct me if I've got it wrong
Both books stand alone IMO.

My local library has Queen of the Conqueror, which is pretty awesome. (Non-fiction, but still looks interesting.)
Into battle we ride with Gods by our side
We are strong and not afraid to die
We have an urge to kill and our lust for blood has to be fulfilled
WE´LL FIGHT TILL THE END! And send our enemies straight to Hell!

Yes, The Winter Mantle is a stand alone but very, very, loosely linked to The Winter Mantle. A character who was a tiny baby as Misfit says in TWM, has his adult story told in The Falcons of Montabard. He's mostly imaginary too, although the historical facts surrounding him are all true. It was a chance remark in a chronicle about an illegitimate son of Simon de Senlis about whom nothing else is known, that led me to create his son Sabin. So although the novels are linked, the way I've written it, that link is tenuous.

I read, and liked Queen of the Conqueror. And I wondered something after that (since I'm reading a novel about Empress Maud again)... did Henry I make his daughter the heir because his mom did so well with the Duchy of Normandy?
They even seemed a bit similar in personality.
