Nicole Galland has a novel called Crossed, set during the Fourth Crusade.
Into battle we ride with Gods by our side
We are strong and not afraid to die
We have an urge to kill and our lust for blood has to be fulfilled
WE´LL FIGHT TILL THE END! And send our enemies straight to Hell!
- "Into Battle"

I'm currently in a reading slump... and I'm dying for a historical epic. I'd appreciate a recommendation of a book that covers the crusades or the papal wars.

Don't know if you'd be keen on this, but I came across Book 1 of the Saladin Trilogy by John Hight, and promptly bought it. Currently reading it, and enjoying it, although it might not be everyone's cup of tea.

Robyn Young's Brethren, Crusade and Fall of the Templars.
David Ball's Ironfire.
Never violate a woman, nor harm a child. Do not lie, cheat or steal. These things are for lesser men. Protect the weak against the evil strong. Never allow thoughts of gain lead you into the pursuit of evil. Never back away from an enemy. Either fight or surrender. It is not enough to say I will not be evil. Evil must be fought wherever it is found.

--David Gemmell, The First Chronicles of Druss The Legend
